I Just Need to Talk a Little Miles With Someone...

Ok, so most of you know (or maybe you don't, thats cool) that I majored in music in college. Well, what many of you don't know is that I spent a year and a half working on my Senior Thesis, which just so happened to be about Jazz. What's so controversial about Jazz, you might ask? Well, I have noticed over time that the word elicits some rather strong emotions from anyone I happen to talk to about the subject.

I have noticed that there are a multitude of individuals who enjoy classical music- as they should! And if you want to get a great debate going, you will rarely find anyone without an opinion about the greatest rock band of all time, or the rapper who most influenced them. All of those things are totally cool, I have a great appreciation for all kinds of music, and have my favorites in each genre as well. But when it comes to Jazz, where are all of the fans? It seems like most 20 somethings either can't stand it, or when asked who their favorite Jazz musician is, replies with "I guess Louis Armstrong."

Don't get me wrong, old Louis is a trumpeter for the ages, but is that the most us young people know about Jazz? Have we forgotten that Jazz is one of the first truly American art forms? With this in mind, don't you think we should take a little more pride in our own music?

And keep in mind, that there are many, many, many types of Jazz out there. If you want the classic New Orleans style, try Wynton Marsalis. A nice piano based Jazz? Bill Evans. Or if you are really looking to expand your horizons, a little Sun Ra.

I realize that if any of my musician friends read this, they will have lots to say- they all have an appreciation for Jazz, even if they do not perform the music themselves. But, shouldn't we at least give Jazz a chance? It is one of the last truly creative and spontaneous art forms left.

Yucky Rain

Ok so my puppy, Hudson (not really much of a puppy, he is 40 pounds) is such a priss that he doesn't want to go outside to pee in the rain. This is particularly humorous because he gets about halfway down the stairs before he realizes the ground is wet, and attempts to pee all over the stairs. Of course, my neighbors are not amused, especially since I am standing there laughing at my wussy dog.

Granted, he isn't the only one who is being affected by the rain. I haven't gotten much of anything done the past few days, except catching up on whatever movie happens to be playing on HBO. This is particularly troublesome, as I have a boatload of schoolwork to finish, and an entire apartment that needs to be packed up. On days like this, its better to be at the local coffee shop sipping tea, and catching up with friends.

Speaking of local coffee shops...Have you Orlando boys and girls tried Pom Pom's Tea House?
That place is amazing! Ok, its really small, but the tea is wonderful (made fresh to order!), and on the weekends it is open all night. Jaysen and I went there one evening after dinner, and I fell in love with the atmosphere. They have sandwiches too, but I haven't gotten around to trying them. I have heard only good things, though. Anyway, if you are looking for something to do on a rainy day, head over to Pom Pom's.

So, how do you deal with the rain?

Great Handmade Stuff!

Ok I know I am usually one of the last to discover great things, but check this out! Its like the ebay of cool, crafty gifts. There are so many amazing things there, and they are all handmade! I have a huge respect for creative individuals who offer a little bit of love in their products.

I am looking on Etsy to find handmade blankets. There are so many to choose from! I will keep you posted on which one I choose.

Family Photos You Wish Were Never Made Public

Ok just check this out. A little funny for a dreary day.
K thanks bye.

Moving Home.

To those of you I have had the pleasure of meeting while in FL, thank you for letting me get to know you.

But, I can't wait to go home to NC. I never knew how much I missed my family and friends, until I missed my friends' college graduation, birthdays, and everything in between.
Now that we are having a little one, I want even more to be close to family. Living in FL has been a hard lesson in the importance of surrounding yourself with people you love, and how sometimes home is better than you remembered it.

Now, Jaysen and I are moving back to NC, and we are starting over in a new place. We are both excited, but sad to leave the friends we made while here. Plus, I am really going to miss the beach!

I learned so much about myself while I have been here, and am grateful for those lessons. I think I am finally ready to put down roots somewhere- do the traditional "family" things. But, I will not abandon my dreams, and have every plan on being a huge success.
Just wait and see.

This is the Beginning

Hi There!
I wanted to start a blog to let the loved ones in on all the things going on in the life of the Wilsons.

Just to catch you up, Darling Husband and I are expecting our first little one! We are thrilled, nervous, blessed, and can't wait to meet our son.

I have about 2 1/2 months left of graduate school, and we are moving to North Carolina next week.

As you can see, there is a lot going on in Wilson Land.

Enjoy my random musings!
